Good morning friends. I'm back with my take on Paper Trey Ink's "Make It Monday #102: Pillow Box Stamping and Assembly" I couldn't have been more thrilled when I saw the challenge this week as I LOVE making these little pillow boxes, and what better time of year than Valentine's Day to make these?! And of course I couldn't stop at just one, no matter how much bending over I had to do! You'll be glad to know the "back" survived, and it was just the therapy I needed! :0) Take a look:
Inspiration struck for the 1st one when I went through my scrap bin to see if I had any pieces big enough to cut out the pillow box, and found a piece of red Coordinations cs. Rather than stamp on this cs, after cutting it out (with PTI's Pillow Box die), I ran it through SU's Elegant Bouquet EF and then lightly sanded it to give the flowers some more definition. You can see it better in this close up picture:
For the tag I used PTI's Limitless Layers Hearts. I had just enough scrap left over to cut out lacy layer in the Coordinations cs and then inked up the same ef with SU's Raspberry Ripple and ran the white heart through...love the way it mimicks the pillow box! :0) I finished the tag by adding another little heart from PTI's Tiny Tags die and stamp set. I used some irridescent sheer white ribbon (Michael's) and silver cord to finish it off.
For my 2nd pillow box, I wanted to try the striped technique Ashley used in her video, but I don't have the striped stamp set (sigh!). I have a striped ef though, and tried that out. I could quickly see that to get the stripes to go vertical though would be an issue as the ef wasn't wide enough to make the stripes go completely around the front AND back of the pillow box. It ended up being quite easy though to put the ef through my Cuttlebug sideways and then match up the last stripe on the cutout with the first stripe on the ef, and run it through the Cuttlebug a second time. Worked perfect and I had stripes all the way around! I apologize for the lighting (Michigan is being hit big time with snow, snow, and more snow this week!) in my pictures, but the color of this 2nd pillow box is SU's Melon Mambo, which is a bright pink and it looks more reddish to me in the picture...grrrrr! But anyway, for the tag I decided to copy a card I had made for one of the challenges a few weeks ago where Dawn McVey showed what to do with oversized cards, and I attached my card to a gift bag that I plan on giving my youngest for Valentine's Day. This way my pillow box will match the gift bag/card...take a closer look:
I used PTI's Embroidered Blooms stamp set to create the tag and the sentiment is from SU's Well Scripted stamp set. I finished with the same sheer ribbon and silver cord as the other pillow box.
Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I think I may just have to make a few more of these pillow boxes this weekend...too fun! :0)
So pretty! Glad to hear you are feeling better!
