MIM#159 - Take Two

Good morning friends.  I am still having fun with the Make it Monday challenge over at Papertrey Ink, and have another "No Sew Quilted Card" to share with you today.  The first quilted item I ever made was a pillow using the Log Cabin pattern, and that was the idea behind my card today.  I like the way my card turned out, but I wish I would have used smaller blocks (like maybe 3/4" blocks) so that you could see the actual Log Cabin pattern more.  Oh well, next time!  Anyway, here's my take two:

I started with 1 1/2" blocks of DSP from the "Promise" pad by LOTV, and then embossed with a hexagon EF as I didn't have that die plate from PTI.  (I've discovered that embossing folders work just as wonderfully to give that quilted look as the cover die plates!)  I used a little white rectangle (Lil Inkers) to stamp my sentiment (Wet Paint - PTI), and then stamped and cut out the smallest Dahlia and leaves from "Delightful Dahlia Additions" (PTI).  I have to tell you that I have not used this stamp set that much because I've struggled with lining up the 3 stamps to get the shading - especially the smaller flower!  But I tried something different this time and it worked beautifully for me - I stamped the 3 steps in reverse order.  I started with the smallest shaded stamp and my darkest color, and then the middle shaded stamp and color, and lastly the largest stamp and my lightest color.  By starting with the darkest color rather than the lightest, I was able to see exactly where I needed to line the images up and it came out perfectly!  I'm so excited I figured this out and plan to use this beautiful set (and other layering sets) a LOT more often now! :0)  To finish this card I added a few jumbo iridescent sequins, and even though you really can't see the Log Cabin pattern I was going for, I still really like how this card turned out!

Thanks so much for stopping by today...I just love it when you do!  And have a wonderful Thursday too...we are going to have another mild day (close to 60...YEAH!!) so I am beyond excited after the looooooooooong winter we had! :0)

  1. I do love how the embossing folder works so much better than the cover plates. Such a subtle card! I love the colors together. I'll have to remember the reverse stamping technique, too!

  6. What a fabulous card! I love the color combination and those pp are awesome! Thanks for the tip on lining up your stamps. I struggle with the three step stamps as well. I'll have to give your method a try. Hopefully it will be as successful for me as it is for you.
What a fun challenge this has been!

  7. This is beautiful! I was hoping to get around to a Log Cabin pattern myself, but doesn't look like I'm going too. Such a shame, ' cause this is GORGEOUS! The hexagon "quilting" looks amazing on this!
