Make it Monday #216 - Adding Color to Cover Plates

Hello friends.  Laura has a great video on adding color to your cover plate dies this week over at Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday challenge.  I decided to use my new Cover Plate: Waves Die and this is what I came up with:

I started by snipping a couple of the top wave lines off the die cut and then colored the rest of the wave lines with my Zig Clean Color (or as Laura calls them, Ziggy Zig Zigs!) Cobalt Blue and Persian Blue Real Brush pens, and then my Aqua Painter brush to blend them.  For my background I started by blending Salty Ocean (TH Distress Ink) and Hibiscus Burst ink lightly over my cardstock (PTI's White Linen) and circle mask for a moon.  At this point when I placed the cover plate die over top, I didn't like it (it all faded together...probably too much tone on tone color), so I smooshed some more Salty Ocean onto a piece of acetate and misted with water, and then pressed my blended background piece onto it.  I love how it came out!  It added just enough concentrated color to pop against the more muted background!  I finished with the die cut seagulls and anchor and rope from the Ahoy stamp set, and also the sentiment that I embossed on a black banner.  A few Glossy Accents water drops were the last finishing touch.

Lots of great cards to check out already (including Laura's 2 beauties!), so make sure you head over to Nichole's blog and check them out!

Thanks so much for stopping by today...I love it when you do! :0)

  7. This is stunning, Marcia! First, I love the inked background and the subtle image of the moon. The inking over the top really draws your attention to the moon. It looks like a night sky after a storm has passed. Everything about this is perfect!!
Anything goes sounds great to me! I couldn't find a link to e-mail you so here's my e-mail
