I had been playing with the marbling technique with shaving cream again (and took Colleen's advice and did it by the kitchen sink this time...much easier to clean up!!), so used a piece of that as my starting point on the side of the card. (re-inker colors used: Canyon Clay, Classic Kraft, & Spring Rain) I have always thought the Sun from the What the Doodle: Sun stamp set looked like a Sunflower, so I die cut one from Canyon Clay and Summer Sunrise cardstock to use as my floral for this card. I added a few die cut leaves from the Floral Sketches stamp set inked in Spring Rain and edged with Classic Kraft. Before gluing anything down I used one of the ferns from Meadow Greens inked with Classic Kraft and spritzed with water on my card base. The berries die cut is stamped with America ink and is from the Spruce & Sprigs set, and my sentiment is from Keep it Simple: Birthday. A simple blue button tied with some twine finished off my masculine card.
Although I was quite intimidated at first with this challenge, I'm glad I played along as it was really fun to see what I could do to transform some of my more "girlie" stamps! Betsy's video is great and has lots of wonderful tips on how to do this too! So take the plunge and play along...you can find Betsy's fabulous card, video, and all the info you need to play along right HERE.
Thanks so much for stopping by today...I love it when you do!! :0)
GREAT card Marcia. What the Doodle Sun was a perfect choice, especially for this Kansas girl!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I like the Spring Rain added into the mix! Your marbling turned out great, too.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add that your ferns in Classic Kraft look almost like Pampas grass....neat!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. I absolutely love your sun/flower! Was admiring that die, and am so happy (and embarassed) to see that I think I have it somewhere. I love your design, the colors you chose, and how you tied in your marbeling to your focal images.
ReplyDeleteGreat sun 'flower'! So clever, you always are! Love the colors, and of course, the marbling! (I have to stop myself from using ALL the papers on every card!)
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Marcia! I love the spring rain mixed in with the other colors of your marbling. It really came out stunning and the sun makes for a great masculine card. You totally rocked this challenge!
ReplyDeleteWhat a smart idea to use the sun as your flower and it goes so well with your other background florals!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great masculine card!

ReplyDeletePerfect color combo for your "sunny" sunflower masculine card, Marcia. Love your spritzed fern and strip of marbled c/s as it ties everything together. Awesome male birthday card!
ReplyDeleteVery nice and perfectly suited to a man! The colors you selected helped in keeping with the theme too. Great job Marcia : )
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way about Betsy's card, but oh my goodness--your card is just as wonderful, Marcia! Love the colors, your stamping & the creative use of the sun die!
