Here's what I came up with using Penny Blacks Butterfly Garden stamp set:
I made a sympathy card and a birthday card using the same butterfly image from the set.
For my sympathy card I die cut a circle out of a piece of lightweight cs and then placed it over a white panel and adhered it with a little washi tape and then did some ink blending with Salty Ocean, Dusty Concord, and Worn Lipstick Distress Inks. Leaving my circle mask still in place, I stamped the butterfly image with my Versafine Black Onyx ink. Then came the exciting part of removing the mask...I always love how crisp and clean the circle image looks after removing the mask! I added my sentiment (PTI's Keep It Simple: Sympathy) and then decided to add another partial butterfly from the same stamp set as the one in the circle. I matted with a piece of black and then adhered both layers to a white card base.
For my 2nd card, I used a bunch of the stamps that come with the Butterfly Garden set and stamped them along the bottom in black ink and then did some Copic coloring. To ground my card a bit more I also added some blending at the bottom using Peeled Paint Distress Ink. Next I stamped my sentiment using a new stamp set from The Greetery called Birthday Blooms and then stamped the butterfly that I used on the first card off to the right side of my card. I matted this layer to an Old Olive card base, added a few clear sequins, and thought I was done. The butterfly just seemed too plain to me though. Hmmmmmm... I thought about coloring it because well, butterflies are colorful! But it wasn't working in my head, so I stared at it awhile, and then decided to add some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. When the light hits it it shines in all different colors, but so subtly that it doesn't take away from the coloring at the bottom of the card. Yep, I'm happy now!! :0)
So there you have my Twofer...a sympathy card and a birthday card both using the same butterfly from Penny Black's Butterfly Garden. Make sure you check out all the beautiful inspiration from the DT and our Special GD's (Barb Ghig and TK) this month, and then play along with us right HERE. We can't wait to see what YOU come up with using the same BUTTERFLY stamp, die or stencil on your 2 DIFFERENT cards! This challenge is open till the 24th. Have fun!!
Thanks for stopping by today ... I love it when you do!
Two beautiful cards here my friend! I love how you've used the butterfly on both of these cards with such a different look. They're both wonderful but the glittery butterfly is dazzling!!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful, dreamy blending on your sympathy card, Marcia ... the line art butterflies, both in the circle and going off the edge are deliciously clean, simple and full of impact! Lovely! Your whimsical garden is just gorgeous ... the blooms and leaves are so fun, especially highlighted with the touch of colour around them ... and that shimmery, glimmery butterfly is a real eye-catcher ... I'm imagining it catching the light! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteThe garden scene is fabulous with the cool blooms and the lovely butterfly. And that ink blending on your sympathy card is fabulous. Wonderful twofers.
ReplyDeleteTerrific cards, terrific designs. Love the ink blending and beautiful butterfly!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful twofer, Marcia! Just love the butterfly in the rich blended circle on card one and the little garden on card two!! Weird thought but the butterfly flying off the right after the sentiment just made me think of someone flying off to the beyond....perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh Marcia, these are beautiful! Your ink blended circle is absolutely stunning, and those butterflies look so lovely just in black. Perfect for the cards we make but wish we didn't have to. And your birthday care...well words can't describe how amazing it is! That gorgeous meadow you've created is so summery and I love that glitterfied butterfly! Just so you know...I'm stealing that idea! Great cards! Sending hugs, and some rain across the lake. xo Bev

ReplyDeleteBeautiful ink blending as a backdrop for this pretty butterfly! I love the partial butterfly to counter balance the colorful one! The second card with it's sparkly butterfly floating over the pretty garden is delightful! Two awesome cards, my friend! You should be happy!
ReplyDeleteYour sympathy card is so serene, Marcia. Your blending is always sensational and I know what you mean about the Big Reveal! I have to say, though, that your fresh garden design is the one that really has me oohing and aahing! I just love everything about this design. From the beautifully colored garden and background to the sediment to the schparkly butterfly and bling, everything is so appealing! Keep well! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful cards Marcia! But I have to say your Make a Wish is my favorite. That sparkling butterfly is marvelous!
ReplyDeleteMarcia, I love that not one of your butterflies is whole...yes, they are that elusive! Unless just born/hatched - then they'll hang around on your shoulder, or from your earlobe, for hours!
ReplyDeleteTwo gorgeous cards - I know another butterfly enthusiast who would love them, too!

With everyone else I applaud your ink blending. It's the key to your beautiful designs. Love how your sentiments create a different mood with the same stamps.
ReplyDeleteTwo really GORGEOUS cards, Marcia! I love your ink blending on the circle and placement of the butterflies on the first card...perfect for the bereaved! I also love how you added the butterfly to your beautiful garden of flowers on the 2nd card...your subtle ink blending and details make this card very special! Thanks so much for having me along as GD for July ~ Barb xx
ReplyDeleteYour cards are gorgeous, Marcia! I'm always looking for sympathy card ideas and I am going to have to pin this and CASE it! I love how you answered your coloring dilemma with the glitter for that second card's butterfly, it really is spectacular!

ReplyDeleteYour ink blending is always so amazing Marcia! LOVE these bright and bold colours with the black outline butterfly image. Adding the partial butterfly image on the side really balances the card. Fantastic sympathy card!
ReplyDeleteYour garden card is sweet! Love those pretty and fun flowers and leaves at the bottom. Great idea to add a little ink blending of green there as well. Your butterfly is so pretty and I bet it is amazing with all the sparkle. xx
Two wonderful designs!
ReplyDeleteWow Marcia, I am loving your butterfly twofer's! That winged beauty is stunning. Love your inked circle of the first one and the simplicity, but so elegant of the design. Butterflies are so great on a sympathy card aren't they? Your 2nd card I'm loving the garden growing up through the inky grass. So beautiful, so much so that a beautiful butterfly came to visit to get some nectar. I bet he is wishing for a tummy full of delicious nectar! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteI've missed so much! Oh your butterfly cards are beautiful... I love the little garden!
