So it's your choice this month...2 cards using the same SUN stamp, die cut, or stencil, or 2 cards using the same MOON stamp, die cut, or stencil. Or maybe a card with a SUN and a card with a MOON that both use the same stamp, die cut, or stencil?? The choice is yours and we can't wait to see what YOU come up with!!
Figured I'd better show you this photo first so you understand what I did! I die cut a small circle out and used it as a mask for my MOON card, and used the piece with the circle opening as a stencil for my SUN card. Take a look:
Using that same circle I made a Christmas card with a MOON behind the tree's on the left, and that circle also worked as a SUN for my Hello Summer card.
I started this card with my mask (MOON) in place and then blended Bundled Sage, Speckled Egg, Stormy Sky, & Faded Jeans Distress Inks for my background. I also added some water droplets and some white splattered paint to mimic the look of snow. Once everything dried, I removed my mask and had a nice little MOON on my background! Next I added a couple die cut hills (PTI's In The Meadow dies) and 3 die cut tree's from Penny Black's Tall Tree's dies. My sentiment is from Penny Blacks Merry Delight stamp set.
For my Hello Summer card I started by blending some yellow and orange inks through the circle die cut for my SUN, and then used MFT's Cloud Stencil for some clouds at the top and then flipped the same stencil upside down to make some waves for the water. I added a torn strip of kraft cardstock to the bottom of the card for a sandy beach area. I don't know how well you can see it, but I added PTI's Sun & Surf Stencil Collection over the top of my card and inked it up with Versamark and then removed the stencil and heat set it with clear embossing powder. You can definitely see the rays at the bottom on the sandy beach area, but the rest of the card really shines IRL!!
Had to have this sweet little Pure Innocence girl (MFT - Sunny Days Ahead) because of the unicorn floaty ring...you may remember that my 5 year old granddaughter LOVES unicorns and I knew she would get a kick out of this image!! I cut a slit into my top wave so I was able to slide my little die cut girl in and make it look like she is jumping in and out of the waves!
This challenge is open till the 24th, and we can't wait to see what YOU come up with using the prompt SUN/MOON! Check out all the great inspiration from the DT and our Special GD's right HERE. Have fun and remember to make your cards different...2 different designs please! :0)
Thanks for stopping by today ... I love it when you do!
Marcia, you clever girl. I had such a hard time with this one. I only own 1 sun stamp. I love that you made both a moon and a sun card how fun is that and from the single cut using both the negative and positive pieces if I am reading correctly. You're rocking the prompt!
ReplyDeleteGreat Twofer, Marcia!! How fun to use the same circle die to get a sun & a moon - brilliant! Just love your little girl with floatie popping out of the waves and your winter scene looks so serene!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a serene moonlit scene you created for your Christmas card, Marcia ... such lovely background blending ... and so tranquil with the snowy banks! Your sunny scene for that little PI girl is just the sweetest ... and yes, I see the sun's rays shining down on her as she leaps her way through the waves! Wonderfully fun and interactive ... your granddaughter will love it! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Marcia, I can't get over that little girl jumping in the waves with her unicorn floatie! So clever to use the same piece to mask the moon and the sun, and I loved reading how you did that. I do see those rays throughout the sunshine card and it's a wonderful detail! I miss you my friend! I told Gene that when this whole Covid thing is over, we are going to drive over for a long weekend in Grand Rapids just so you and I can get together. He was all for it!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I need to know if Eunice Cornelia has been born yet, haha! I'll probably never remember your up-and-coming granddaughter's real name, you know...Big sister will adore this sweet card. That unicorn floaty is sooo cute! And how you've created the waves and the rays...truly brilliant!! Love your soft, sweet Christmas card. Have you ever been out in the woods at night just listening to the snow fall? This card reminds me of those quiet times; it's beautiful. You've got a wonderful twofer going on here, Marcia. Love both of these!! Sending hugs across the big Lake. xo Bev
ReplyDeleteMarcia, these two cards are terrific! My mind jumped to a moon with a Christmas scene and here you are with it, then I shut down, hmmm...what to do on the second card. Well, your mind works just fine and with such awesome creativity! I love both your cards...and that girl jumping in and out of the water is AMAZING!! You rock this and inspire! Have a blessed and fabulous week my friend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun card for your 5 year old granddaughter and how creative and loving the unicorn x. Such a contemporary and wonderful Christmas card and I like how you used the Sun and Moon theme on your cards. Fabulous cards Marcia and I have so enjoyed being a guest designer this month x.
ReplyDeleteI love your winter scene with the chilly moon shining down! Your beach scene is delightful especially with the sweet little wave jumper! Addie will love it!
ReplyDeleteTwo incredible cards Marcia! I absolutely love the snow you've created. It makes your card look so peaceful. And that little girl in her unicorn floatie is darling. YES, YES I see the sun rays and was wondering how you did them, they look terrific!!
ReplyDeleteI have to start with the last one after seeing how fun you made your beach design by having that little girl with her unicorn floaty bobbing up and down out of the waves! Your GD will have a blast with this one, Marcia! Everything about it is so clever and so well laid out with right side up/down clouds/waves and the long rays of the sun! And your Christmas design with the moon shining through the evergreens on a snowy night is simply beautiful! Thanks for the emphasis on "design" in your post to help get the message out! Take care! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteI did, I did see the rays of light, Marcia! Oh my goodness, you are so clever using a homemade stencil instead of a stamp. I needed that wintery scene to cool off this morning - so beautiful! I didn't know "we" had another little MFT floater! She's about the cutest with her sweet little Unicorn - so fun that she's bob bob bobbin' along!
ReplyDelete=]
I was about to comment on how cute your little girl was and when I scrolled down to the comment box I saw her jump out of the water. How fabulous, Marcia She is as cute as can be and the waves and sand made a great scene. Speaking of scenes, the softly moonlight pines make a beautiful scene too.
ReplyDeleteTwo wonderful cards here Marcia! Love the sweet swimming girl popping up out of the water. so clever and incredibly cute and yes, I see those sun rays. Just perfect my friend!! The Christmas card is beautiful as well. Lovely dark sky and snowy specks. I'd say you rocked the inspiration for this challenge today.
ReplyDeleteOh they are beautiful! The peaceful winter scene and then your sweet little girl against an amazing sky. I love that you have made it so she jumps in and out... so clever!
ReplyDeleteTwo fantastic cards Marcia. LOVE how you used your die-cut to create a mask and a stencil. So clever! And opposites in the seasons makes it even more fun. Beautiful Christmas card with the gorgeous colours of your ink blended sky. And how fun that Pure Innocense can jump in and out of the waves. Your granddaughter is going to LOVE this card! xx
