My first card uses a technique call Faux Patina...
I used a Tim Holtz 3D embossing folder on a piece of white cardstock, and then you use a light colored ink sponged over the embossed area (I used Crumb Cake) and then a blue ink, a green, ink, and lastly a dark ink (I used Soft Suede).
Lastly you lightly rub Versamark ink over the raised areas and add embossing powder (I used gold), and then you have a piece that really does look patina'd. I add a couple die cut trees from Penny Black (tall trees) using a gold shimmer paper and also added a layer of the gold behind my embossed panel. I left a sentiment off as I'm not sure if this will be a Christmas card or a sympathy card.
My next card uses a technique where you simply use your ink pads pressed into the inside of your embossing folder (you'll get two different looks depending on if you press the ink pad into the raised or recessed side of the embossing folder). For this card I used Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade, & Peeled Paint DI and pressed them into the recessed side so that the leaves remained white. Once you have your folder inked up, you spritz it with water, lay your cardstock onto the inked surface, fold the folder closed and gently rub to transfer the ink to your cardstock. The background on this card is actually a 2nd pull as I still had ink on the folder after the 1st time, so I just spritzed it again and put in another piece of cardstock. The embossing folder I used on this card is from Spellbinders and called Changing Seasons. The die cut leaf is from SU!'s Love Of Leaves and my sentiment is from Clearly Besotted's Autumn Flowers.
My next 2 cards are ones I did before we met after watching a Jennifer McGuire video (HERE) using a couple new Altenew 3D embossing folders and DOX ink...
I love how this one turned out! I used Altenew's Beautiful Berginia ef with Salty Ocean DOX ink lightly applied to the inside recessed area of the folder. My bird was die cut using PTI's Feathered Friends 4 die (I used a scrap piece for the tail that I had used Brushos on) and the JOY is from PTI's Bold Borders: Flurries die. The holly was also cut from the scrap of Brushos and was die cut from a Penny Black die set called Christmassy.
This card was done the same way using Altenew's Flowers & Leaves 3D ef and Squeezed Lemonade DOX ink. The flowers are from Altenew's Painted Poppies stamp set and the sentiment is from PTI's Winter Woods.
Hope you enjoyed seeing what I came up with using some different techniques for embossing folders, and check out what the rest of the group came up with by clicking on their names below.
Wow, gorgeous embossed cards my friend!! I love your faux patina one, it gives it such a nice rich look! Fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was time well spent, what a gorgeous collection of cards.
ReplyDeleteThree gorgeous backgrounds using your EB folders, Marcia. I love the 1st card using the recessed side of your EB folder and the 2nd pull. I loved all your die cut additions to your finished cards. So fun. TFS my friend. Love and Hugs..Nancy
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous 3D emb. folder you used for your faux patina Marcia - it came out beautifully and the bronze trees look lovely layered over it (although it would look terrific all by itself too!) Love the beautiful fall colors on your inked EF leaf card with the bright red die cut one overlaid - and both of your inked EF's with the bird and poppies came out so nicely with the DOX inks - that is a great EF - Love the bird too(Just purchased it!) xx
ReplyDeleteAll gorgeous, but honestly? You 'had me' at patina! How fun!
ReplyDelete=]
Your faux patina turned out beautifully and I love the tall trees on it! Love the multicolor inking with the die cut leaf! Your deep embossing turned out beautifully with those soft colors in the background! I need to work more on that technique. Love, love, love this sweet bird and the poppies are pretty too! Awesome makes, my friend!
ReplyDeleteFour gorgeous cards Marcia and great techniques. I have never tried the faux patina which looks beautiful and the different inks used on the second leafy EF are so bright and pretty, and the third and fourth using that 3D Altenew folder with the inset areas just softly inked, and with delightful images both beautifully coloured, are fabulous. x
ReplyDeleteFour beauties with those embossing techniques, Marcia! Especially love the golden trees but they all look amazing!!
ReplyDeleteSO much prettiness Marcia! The lase one with those fabulous red poppies is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteWow, love all your pretty cards Marcia. I am with Lisa, the last one with the pretty red ppppies is my favorite also. TFS
ReplyDeleteMarcia, these are all fabulous, but my favourite is the first one - love that Faux Patina background with the gold trees. Loll did the same techniques with another group of us on a zoom call and I think the Faux Patina was my favourite technique.
ReplyDeletelove all your cards but I think my fave is the faux patina :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards Marcia! I LOVE your Faux Patina card with the early colours and those gorgeous dark gold tree dies. Beautiful! Also, beautiful background colours for your EF stamping and for the two using JMcG inked folder techniques. It was so much fun to pull out embossing folders again! xx
ReplyDeleteWow! You got some amazing results! Your first card is so perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a superb collection! Love the faux patina Christmas card and the glorious autumnal colours in your second card. Wonderful results with the E/F too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning collection of cards here Marcia! The faux patina is fabulous and one technique I'd love to try. The colorful leaf background is so warm and cheerful. I'd love to try all these techniques!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards, Marcia. I just didn't get the Faux Patina background to work out at all, even though I did it when I went to Brenda's retreat in Indiana. I have been wanting to try it again but just haven't gotten around to it. I just got my Beautiful Bergenia EF this week so anxious to try Jennifer's techniques with it. Of course she always makes it look so easy and then when I try, not so much. Lol... Looking forward to seeing you next week, friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm speechless at your gallery of beautiful cards Marcia! I've been visiting Darnell's blog and she too has been playing with EFs over a zoom get together. I have only EFs in my stash but I can see I'm going to need to acquire a few more as these techniques look so much fun and your results are amazing! The patina one is incredible and I love the watercolour one too but my favourites are the bird and the poppy ones - the subtle colour is stunning and those EFs are gorgeous! Vicky x
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous, Marcia ... each one rich with texture and depth ... you sure aced this technique, these are just fantastic! My particular favourite is the one with the bird ... I love how he and the shimmery sentiment just pop against the subtle background! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteI love that faux patina, Marcia. I saved this so I can try it myself. I hope I understood the directions.
