My sweet friend Michele and I had a play date last week and used the Blue & Brown color theme to make a background using the new Tartan Builder Stencils from The Greetery, and then did our own thing with our backgrounds. I actually have 2 cards to share as I wasn't too sure I liked my plaid card at first, but it's grown on me! I'm not much of a masculine card maker, but these will do!!
I used Gina K and Pinkfresh Studio inks to stencil my plaid background, and then framed it using kraft cardstock and a die cut frame from PTI's Pierced Feature Frame Dies. My little birdie was die cut using Ink To Paper's Feathered Friends 2 Dies with kraft and Early Espresso (SU!) cardstocks and a snippet of kraft polka dotted dsp (PTI). The little twig wreath was a sweet gift from my friend Birgit and is from Creative Expressions dies. I added some bakers twine and a tiny tag (PTI for the tag die and The Greetery for the sentiment) at the top to balance the card out a bit.
My 2nd card started with a bit of ink blending and masking off the left hand side and bottom with some washi tape. The brown ink is Gina K's Warm Cocoa and the blue is Pinkfresh Studios Blue Jay ink. I inked up the lighthouse and birds from Gina K's By The Sea 1 stamp set using Early Espresso ink (SU!), and then matted with a piece of Soft Suede cardstock (SU!) before attaching to a white card base.
I just love ink blending, and think these 2 colors work perfectly together for the background of my nautical card! I'm thinking it will make a great Father's Day card for one of my girls to give their dad in a couple weeks!
As much as I love your little plaid panel turned 'bird house' I adore the colors used for your lighthouse card even more, Marcia! Two beautiful cards - thanks for sharing those stencils!

Such great cards with blue and brown, Marcia.
ReplyDeleteYour plaid card looks amazing Marcia. Great blending and such a peaceful scene on card number two x. Wonderful colour combination and two fantastic cards x.
ReplyDeleteWOW! That plaid looks like paper, it is so crisply inked. It's beautiful and perfect for the bird and nest. I love the lighthouse best too! The inking is so pretty in these hues, and I love the clean lines. Thanks for playing!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing plaids you and Michele made! Love it, and love the lighthouse as well! Thanks for joining us at Color Hues!

ReplyDeleteI need to move to Michigan to have play dates with you two! Your birdie card with the stenciled plaid is darling, but that lighthouse! WOWEE, love that one. Beautifully done, Marcia!
ReplyDeleteThese are both wonderful Marcia! I love the brown and blue tartan plaid but your masculine lighthouse card is stunning. I'll move to Michigan too and we'll start a stamping community. ;0)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to look into these plaid building stencils. I do love a plaid and this is fantastic in the blue and brown! Love, love, love the ink blending with the lighthouse! Wish I could blend that smoothly! Two fantastic masculine cards, my friend!
ReplyDeleteSuch different cards using the colors but each totally fabulous, Marcia. They are wonderful masculine cards and the little bird is so cute with the plaid. The ink blending around the lighthouse is perfect and so serene.
ReplyDeleteThese are both stunning, Marcia! I absolutely LOVE your plaid card! So very awesome! Thanks so much for joining us at Color Hues!
ReplyDeleteWonderful cards!! Oh your ink blending is so beautiful on the second card and the scene evokes such serenity... Loving the plaid with the sweetest little birdie there...
ReplyDeleteBlue and brown is a great colour combination and you have done two fabulous cards using them, Marcia. LOVE your tartan builder stencil. It's wonderful paired with your sweet bird in a nest. Ink blending has to be one of the most beautiful ways to create a background. Having it just in the bottom corner is perfect to deplict the land and sea for your lovely lighthouse image. Great work with this challenge!! xx
ReplyDeleteOn Marcia! These are both fabulous!!! Masculine cards can be tricky for sure! Love the plaid background card a lot, but the lighthouse card speaks to me too! Thanks for joining us over at Color Hues and have a wonderful day!
