Freshly Made Sketches #725

Hello friends.  Playing along with the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge where DT member Cecile has a FUN sketch for us to play with.

I wasn't too sure what the middle gray piece was in the photo, but after looking at all the DT inspiration, I figured it was "anything goes"...so that's what I did!  I used a PTI stencil called Watercolor Wonderful Stencil Collection and came up with this card...

Looks a little bit like the gray part in the sketch, right?  RIGHT?!! I used the first two stencils in the set with pink and orange inks that were left on my brushes...there is a 3rd stencil that adds splattering but they're too big and I wasn't thrilled about the look of my first card, so this is actually my 2nd attempt and I did my own splattering.  I'll show you the 1st card down below as it isn't a terrible card, I just liked this one better!  The cascade of flowers are from Gina K's Thoughtful Flowers bundle and I embossed them in gold and then stenciled them with the same colors as the water colored background.

I die cut the floral spray and added foam tape on the backside for a bit of dimension and then added to the water colored panel, along a with a black matte and white card base.  My sentiment strip is from Gina's All At Once Greetings.

This was the first card, and you can see that the splatters that are stenciled are quite a bit bigger than the ones that I did with a paint brush.  I added a silhouette stamp (Gina K - Better Together), and while I really like the silhouette against the water colored background, I'm just not thrilled with the larger splatters!  Do you like one better than the other?  Let me know.

The DT has some beautiful cards to inspire you to play along and you can find them all right HERE.  This challenge is open till Monday, March 2nd @ 3:00PM.

Thanks for stopping by today ... I love it when you do!

  1. Both really beautiful, Marcia! But I am really loving your gold-embossed floral swag so much! You did a great job recreating Cecile's background and the colors are so beautiful - and Spring-y!

  2. Your stencil is a perfect fit, Marcia! I love both cards but like Michele, the floral swag and smaller splatters tug at my heart strings.

  3. They're both absolutely beautiful, Marcia! I do like your own splatters better with a floral image. You did them so perfectly! The gold embossing and sweet colors are especially pretty. The silhouette stamp is gorgeous and makes for a striking card! I probably wouldn't have given a thought to those splatters without the comparison.

  4. I think I like the splatters done with your paint brush better! I'm envious that you can get such nice splatters! I always end up with splatters everywhere but where I want them! Beautifully painted flowers and I also love the drama of the black!

  5. Marcia, lovely take on the sketch with both cards. Love the black outline on the first. It really makes the panel pop. The bigger splatters work on the second with the silhouette type stamped image.

  6. Both backgrounds are lovely. But I love the gold embossed and beautiful flowers of the first card the best. The silhouette is striking against your watercoloured background. xx

  7. Both cards are beautiful Marcia but I really like the first one with the gold embossed floral spray and your lovely coloring. The 2nd one is striking with the black silhouette image. You did a wonderful job on the background of each card.

  8. They're both very pretty, but I do like the organic look of the first one better. Plus the colors of the flowers are just beautiful!

  9. Oh I love the stenciled design--such a great idea to use that for the abstract element in Cécile's sketch! And both versions are so pretty with a nod to the first and the pastel blooms! Thanks for linking up to FMS this week!
