Hello friends. My dear friend BIRGIT and I are back with a new challenge this month using Brusho's (or Color Burst). We decided to combine these intense water color powders with Valentine images and see what we could come up with! I think we both learned that less is more when using these powders, and you'll definitely be able to see what I'm talking about with my first card:
I used Merlot Color Burst and Purple Brusho's on this card and obviously, the more powder you sprinkle on your cardstock, the bolder the result! I do love the look, but ended up keeping the rest of the card very simple with a Tim Holtz scribbled heart die cut in black, and then my sentiment from MFT Love You More.
My 2nd card also has a pretty intense background using Cobalt Blue and Sea Green Brusho's. Once again I kept the design pretty simple using a SSS Stacked Hearts die and sentiment from the same MFT Love You More stamp set.
I filled in a couple of the hearts to add a little more interest and added a banner for my embossed sentiment. Not your traditional colors for Valentine's Day, but I kinda like it!!
My next 3 cards I used Crimson Brusho's and used a much lighter hand when shaking on the color! This 3rd card used a Impression Obsession die cut and a simple sentiment from SU!.
See what a difference using just a tiny bit of the powder makes? As much as I like the boldness of my first two cards, I really, really like the softness of this lighter background! I think it really makes the die cut stand out, and all I needed to finish it were a few sequins and the sentiment. My mom is going to receive this one! :0)
My 4th card is another simple one with a lighter background, and I really like how this one turned out too!
This one also used the Crimson Brusho's, but notice the tiny bits of blue that showed up in this one...really love that tiny bit of contrast! I used PTI's Wonderful Words: Love die and cut out 4 of them and glued them together for a bit of dimension. A simple matting with black really makes this CAS card pop!
My last card once again uses the Crimson Brusho's and is also a shaker card. Take a look:
Another really simple card, but you don't need much when using Brusho's...the background kind of steals the show! :0) I created the shaker part with PTI's Heart Squared die and stamp set. The square was die cut 5 times with only the top layer being stamped in an ombre pattern using Scarlet Jewel, Pure Poppy, Raspberry Fizz, Hibiscus Burst, and Sweet Blush inks. Just a few sequins were all that was needed to fill the square along with the sentiment from the Heart Squared stamp set.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my cards, and will take the time to hop over to BIRGIT'S blog too, as I just know she will have some amazing cards to share with you!
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend! :0)
Oh Marcia, these are all fabulous!! I agree that less is more, but your first two cards with the bold background are perfect with the bold black die cuts. I love the single red heart in the second one. It really pops! Your third card is stunning! I love the swirly die cut and that fabulous font on the sentiment. The CAS style of the 4th one really allows the background to be the star of the show and the shaker card is awesome! You can never go wrong with a shaker card. I love the ombre hearts around the frame. You really rocked this challenge my friend!! What fun!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you and Birgit have really done a great job on this challenge between you two. I really do like the first heavy handed one, lol. It looks like confetti on the card. Your others are lovely with the softer hand. I tend to be heavy handed I think.
