Make It Monday Throwback - Masking Sentiments

Hello friends.  This week Papertrey Ink is having a Make It Monday Throwback challenge...revisiting a challenge Ashley Cannon Newell did a few years back where she showed how to mask a sentiment.

The sentiment that Ashley used for her card reminded me of the sentiment from Harvest Berries stamp set, and while I know that set was intended to be a Fall season set, I decided to make it a Spring set by changing my colors up to a brighter version.

I stamped the sentiment on a sticky note and then cut around the top part of the sticky note like Ashley did in her video.  After placing it in the center of my water color cardstock, I stamped all the leaves in Versamark ink and then heat embossed in white.

Next I smooshed New Leaf ink onto an acrylic block and then used my Aqua Painter to add color to all the leaves.  After the green was dry I added a few berries in Hibiscus Burst.

I used the Noted: Scalloped A2 Vertical Dies to die cut my stamped layer and the base layer, and then added another layer of Hibiscus Burst in between the two.  A few sequins and some baker's twine and this brighter version of Harvest Berries was finished!

You can check out Ashley's card and video right HERE and then play along.

CAS Mix Up May 2018

Hello friends.  This month's challenge at CAS Mix Up involves using Gelatos or Crayons.

I have used both Gelatos and Crayons on cards before, and went with Gelatos for my card today because I had the exact colors I wanted (Pink, Purple, & Red).  My inspiration for those colors actually came from the blog header of my sweet friend LINDA.

My die cut is from AliExpress and I colored all 3 colors on the die cut frame, and then used a damp finger to gently blend the colors together all around the die cut.  I cut two more of the die cut frame and glued them together along with the Gelatos colored one on top for some extra added dimension.

My sentiment comes from PTI's Sunflower Harvest and I embossed it in white on black cardstock.  I also added a small pink enamel dot to add a small pop of color to the black sentiment banner.

For this card I used Gelatos, die cutting, and stamping/embossing.

This challenge is open till the 24th, and you can check out all the BEAUTIFUL cards from the DT right HERE for more inspiration.

Merry Monday #289 - Use A STAR

Hey Merry Monday fans...Debbie is our hostess this week and she would like to see a STAR on our Christmas cards this week!

I bought a couple new dies last year from a new to me company called Tutti Designs and how perfect that one of them had a STAR in it!!

It's a pretty intricate die, but just perfect for this challenge!  It's called Nativity Shooting Star (Tutti - 342).

I started by blending Mermaid Lagoon, Faded Jeans, & Picked Raspberry DOX inks on some white cardstock and then splattered a bit with water to give the illusion of a starry sky.  Next I die cut the image and saved every tiny little piece.  I die cut the image a 2nd time in black and then inlaid all the tiny little pieces...a little bit time consuming but very worth it IMHO!!

I thought about adding some shimmer or shine, but in the end decided to leave it CAS and just add a sentiment, which came from SU!'s Wise Men From Afar.

What will YOU come up with this week using a STAR??  The sky's the limit!  Sorry, couldn't resist!!  Hope to see you in the gallery soon!  And if you need a little more inspiration, check out what the rest of the DT came up with and then play along right HERE.

Color Throwdown #491

Hello friends.  The Color Throwdown challenges have had some of the most beautiful color combinations lately, and this week was no exception!!

I love that light colored couch with the colorful pillows, but with 2 dogs in our house that just wouldn't work!  It does work to make beautiful cards though!!  :0)

I used SSS's Tap Dance stencil and Altenew's Beautiful Day to create my card for a friend of mine that I think could use some "happy mail".

I embossed my sentiment from PTI's Penned Elegance first, then stamped my flowers and leaves and then using the stencil with my kraft ink last.

I attached my panel to a kraft card base and then finished with a few iridescent sequins and some twine.

This challenge is open till tomorrow (5/7), so check out all the lovely, lovely cards from the DT and then play along.  Details can be found HERE.

Make It Monday #321 - Blending On Colored Cardstock

Hello friends.  Melissa Phillips is hosting this weeks Make It Monday challenge, and rather than blending on white cardstock, she would like us to blend our inks on colored cardstock.

I started by die cutting my cardstock (Tropical Teal, Bitty Big: Harvest Gold, & Aqua Mist) with the Noted: Scalloped A2 Vertical dies.

I embossed with white on the Aqua Mist cardstock and vellum using Butterfly Blooms and A Bit More: Butterfly Blooms and then ink blended with Hawaiian Shores on the Aqua Mist layer and used Bright Buttercup to blend on the back of the vellum butterfly.

A sentiment strip, a few sequins, and a little yellow ribbon stapled onto the sentiment finished off this sweet little card I'm going to send to our oldest daughter for Mother's Day.  Last year on Mother's Day she gave birth to our 2nd grandchild and first boy in the family for quite a while...hard to believe he's almost a year old!!

And yes, if you look closely enough, he's been eating dirt...ALL BOY!!  :0)  Although his older sister ate dirt at that age too...must run in the family!!

Make sure you check out Melissa's BEAUTIFUL cards and video right HERE and then play along!

CAS Watercolour May 2018 - RAINBOW

Hello friends.  We have a FUN challenge for you this month at CAS Watercolour...we'd like to see a RAINBOW on your card!  It doesn't have to be literally a RAINBOW, but we'd love to see all the colors of a RAINBOW on your card.  Just remember ROYGBIV (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, & Violet) and you'll be on your way!  Remember also that you need to include some form of watercolouring and that your card be CAS!

I started by using some of my ink cubes and pressing them onto an acrylic block, and then used my Aqua Painter to add water and then make a rainbow.

I should have snapped a photo before I did my die cutting, but you can still get the general idea of how I started my card.  The die I used was SSS's Birthday Circle.

I used PTI's Shape Shifters: Circle die to die cut my circle that I added my rainbow sentiment and cupcake to.  The frosting on the cupcake looked a little plain, so I added my 3 year old granddaughter's favorite cupcake topping...SPRINKLES!  These little pieces were leftovers from the die cut letters that spelled out Happy Birthday...good use of scraps, eh??!!  :0)

I finished off my card with a simple black banner that I embossed with white and an enamel dot, and then added some black & white bakers twine to the top.  Easy peasy and ALL the colors of the RAINBOW!!

We can't wait to see what you come up with this month using RAINBOW colors!  The DT has some absolutely FABULOUS ideas to inspire you, so check it all out right HERE and then play along with us!!

Thanks for stopping by today ... I love it when you do!

Inspired By All The Little Things #84

Hello friends.  The inspiration photo for the Inspired By All The Little Things challenge is definitely a yummy looking one this time!

Wouldn't you like to dig into that cake?!!  Yummmmm!!  I was inspired by the beautiful colors and went with a floral card because, well, because I like flowers!!

I started by die cutting PTI's new Bold Borders: Flare Die from white cardstock, and then used the center piece as a mask on another piece of white cardstock so I could blend the Aqua Mist ink everywhere but the rectangle center.  Once I laid the die cut piece over the blended piece, the center was still white so I could stamp my sentiment from PTI's New Every Morning stamp set.

Next I stamped and blended the flowers and leaves from PTI's Botanical Bounty set and then fussy cut them out.  I'm loving the chocolate leaves and the Aqua Mist ones with the edges in chocolate, because when you're stamping they don't have to be realistic, right?!!

I think these colors ended up being great for flowers (even though the ice cream and Macaron's look fabulous!!) and I'm really pleased with the way this card turned out!  It will be another great one to send my friend who is still courageously battling ALS!

This challenge is open till the end of the week, so make sure you check out their featured artist Cat Craig and all the rest of the talented DT to see how they interpreted the inspiration photo, and then play along!  You can check it all out right HERE.
