CAS Watercolour June 2018 - OCEAN

Hello friends.  This month at CAS Watercolour, Bonnie is hosting and she has chosen the theme of the OCEAN.

I have a "twofer" for you today, as when I was creating my OCEAN background, I didn't like what I came up with at first.  After completing another that I liked, the rejected one kept staring at me...so I worked with it and actually like what I came up with!  But first one first:

I used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi water colors to paint my beach and water and then stamped my sweet image from an old wooden stamp by Great Impressions (F366).  I used a simple oval cut frame over the water colored image, and thought about adding something else, but in the end left it as it was...CAS.

As a young girl we took a family vacation for 2-3 weeks every Summer and visited a lot of the U.S. as my dad was a big history buff...especially going out east as he really loved anything to do with the Civil War.  To keep my brothers and I happy, he always included trips to the ocean and I remember those as magical times.  Hence, I went with a bit of a whimsical sentiment on my card that started out as a oops...

You may be wondering where the oops is...before I added anything, I didn't like the darker blue in the center of the background.  I don't know why...I just didn't!  But anyway, after I added the die cut cattails and grasses and seagulls (both AliExpress) and added a die cut circle frame, it wasn't so bad.  And then after adding the sentiment from MFT's Seaside Seagulls, I liked it even more!  Guess the moral of the story here is DON'T THROW ANYTHING AWAY!!

You will be blown away by what the rest of the DT has to inspire you with, so check it all out right HERE, and then play along with us.  Make sure you also check out our Guest Designer Robyn this month...she is amazing!!  This challenge is open until the 24th.

Thanks for stopping by today ... I love it when you do!

Your first card is beautiful and I wish I was that girl sitting beside the ocean. A perfect place to contemplate life. :) Beautiful wash of colour and looks amazing in the oval aperture.

Your second is STUNNING! I'm so happy you didn't give up on it. I love the variations of blue in your background. The darker blue looks perfect to me. Love the scene you've created with the seagulls and cattails. Sweet! xx

I love your sweet little girl day dreaming (I think) while looking out at the ocean. Your 2nd card turned out beautifully too. I loved the sentiment on your 2nd card. Perfect for the Ocean scene. TFS both cards, Marcia. Hugs..

Oh Marcia, a card maker after my own heart... lots of attempts (for me especially this time as guest - you want to make it special... I have heaps of backgrounds) Back to your cards... WOW!! I love them both - the little girls sitting in the sand reminds me of our holidays to the beach and the seagulls is just brilliant, fabulous!

Your first card is a very sweet CAS card, Marcia! Just looking at the little girl's tiny back melts my heart. And your second card turned out wonderful - now the darker blue makes a great visual texture and interest.

Wow!!! I've missed so much on your blog recenlty and I'm so glad I kept scrolling back so as not to miss these two beautiful cards. Perfectly soft water coloring on both of them Marcia and I'm so glad you kept moving forward with the second card. It's truly stunning with the deeper blue. Thanks for sharing your warm family memories with us too. The ocean is a wonderful place to be!

Two lovely watercolor designs Marcia! The little girl gazing at the ocean from her rocky ledge is so tranquil - and the seagull one is just a riot - cracked me right up!! Great use of a background you thought you didn't like - and wonderful seagulls and sentiment!

Sorry to be so late in commenting (too busy gardening!). I love the sweet image of the little girl gazing at the water. And a perfect wash of sand and sea. And I really laughed at the sentiment on the seagull card! Great combination of the grasses and seagulls to mask the part of the background you didn't like.
