Color Hues #137 - Black & Red

Hello friends.  Time for another challenge here at Color Hues and for the next 2 weeks our hostess Nancy (filling in for Jules who is still in the process of unpacking at her new place) would like us to use BLACK & RED.

Easy peasy, right??  I don't know why, but I struggled with this one!  I persevered though and came up with this...

I used a new to me die set from SB's called Lock & Key Mailbox and black and gray cardstocks and of course red!  I cut the mailbox from black, so it would show up against my embossed background in Smokey Slate cs and SU!'s Timeworn Type...figured it went well with the old fashioned mailbox.

After die cutting all the pieces, I used my blending brush and black ink on the medium gray pieces and also used a bit of matte silver cs (Gina K) for the key, lock and HELLO sentiment.  I love the little wax seal on the letter with the heart in the center...makes me smile!  I added some WOS to the roses to make them stand out and then finished with a few lady bugs (WF) for a bit of whimsy!

Here's a bit of a side view so you can see the dimension of the flap where you drop your mail into.  For not knowing what I was going to do with these colors in the beginning, I thought this card came out pretty cute and I'm sure it will bring a smile to someone's face!

My talented teammates and our Special GD's Julia & Joanne all came up with awesome ideas for using these two colors, so check it out HERE if you need inspiration!  This challenge is open till Wednesday, July 29th @ 9:00AM.

Thanks for stopping by today ... I love it when you do!

There is no sign of any struggle here on your adorable card, Marcia! Such a cute mailbox - I had this version on my old house that had - and continues to have - a 'house to house' walking mailman! But it was never this cute!

Michelel is right. If you hadn't said it was a struggle, we'd never have known. It's such a creative design! I would never had thought of ladybugs but what a great embellishment. I think you'll get lots of use from this wonderful mailbox!

We have a mailbox, or as we say a post box, but not as elegant as this one Marcia. Love the little ladybugs which add that pop of red. :)

Marcia, I know you are right when you tell me I'm too hard on myself. Sometimes it is a struggle to make a certain card, but I'd never know it affected you from seeing this sweet beauty! I love the old fashioned look of the mailbox, so pretty in black and gray. The roses and silver accents are elegant and perfect additions! The whimsical ladybugs are my favorite. A great design.

Well, this is just too cute! You say you struggled, but I was thinking you always come up with the best ideas for the color challenge. The ladybugs are adorable, and it's just too fun that there's a seal for the envelope. Such a pretty mailbox and, yes, the Timeworn Type is beyond perfect with it!

When I was growing up, my parents had a black mailbox similar in shape. Of course, yours is much prettier and it does have some great dimension with that flap. The letter with the wax seal is cute, as are those two lady bugs. Love every bit of this, Marcia!
