Color Hues Challenge #103 - RED & PINK

Hello friends.  February 1st and time for a new challenge here at Color HuesTracey is our sweet hostess this time around and she's looking for RED & PINK.  I'm thinking Valentine's Day with these colors, but as always, you do you!!  We are also partnering up with the Inkspirational Challenge for these next 2 weeks and here's a bit more info for you...

We are also excited to share with you that we are partnering up this challenge with the Inkspirational Challenge! Details are shared below from teammate and cardmaker extraordinaire Carol Mayne!

Carol here, one of Color Hues' designers and a designer/behind-the-scenes organizer of Inkspirational Challenges.

The design team gals and I at Inkspirational are delighted to participate in this first-time collaboration with Color Hues. Hopefully, you’ll find our team’s contributions as inspiring as those created by the team here.

This collaboration serves two key goals: to increase the exposure of both challenges to players who may/may not know about them and to offer YOU a chance to share your projects in two galleries. If you link up here, please hop over to Inkspirational and link up there as well.

A wee bit about Inkspirational Challenge, in general:

We’re a two-week challenge that features a rotation of: Word Prompt, Designer's Choice, Mood Board, Clean and Simple, Use Stencils and Seasonal. We’re pleased to have a strong group of participants who embrace our challenges with enthusiasm and creativity on a regular basis. We look forward to introducing them to Color Hues and hope they'll add this engaging challenge to their crafting repertoires.

So, let's get going with what I have to share using these two great colors!  I started with an oldie from Penny Black stamps called ...goodness and it's from 2015.  Take a look...

Isn't she a cutie?!  I colored her with my Copics and then fussy cut her out.  I added her to a background that I used a SB Heart Swag embossing folder and also die cut a heart from red & pink using The Greetery's Nordic Hearts dies.

Here's a close up so you can see the embossed details better on the background and the hearts.  I used foam tape behind the little girl and then finished with a sentiment strip embossed in white on black cs and a few Disco Ball Sequins (Gina K).

I always stamp 2 images in case of a mess up and decided to finish up the 2nd one with just a reversal of the red & pink and now have 2 of the 3 Valentine cards I need for my granddaughters.

So there you have what I came up with using RED & PINK for this challenge.  We can't wait to see what you come up using these 2 colors, and don't forget to check out all the inspiration from the DT here at Color Hues and also at Inkspirational.  You will only need to link up your card at one of the challenges and then the system will automatically link you to the other one.  Both these challenges are open till Friday, Feb. 14th @ 9:00AM.

Thanks for stopping by today ... I love it when you do!

You Warm My Heart

Hello friends.  Playing along with a couple challenges today using a cute little snowman from Tim Holtz (CHILLY) and an older PTI set called Quilted Winter.  Here's what I came up with...

I die cut all 67 pieces for this small snowman (JK! But Tim does use a lot of die cuts for his images!!) and managed not to get too much glue everywhere (mostly my fingers!!).  My snowflake quilt frame was die cut from PTI's Bitty Big DSP and then again twice from white cs to add some dimension and sturdiness to the frame.  I used the same DSP for one of the background layers to tie it all in to the frame too.

In this close up you can see a bit more of the detail and also the white panel that I embossed with SSS's Icy Snowflakes embossing folder.  I have quite a few snowflake ef's, but I honestly think that this one might be my favorite as I reach for it quite often!!  My sentiment also  comes from an older PTI set called Winter Hills and I thought it fit perfectly with the addition of the red heart the snowman is holding. Pretty simple card but I'm happy with the way it turned out and thrilled also to have another Christmas card done for next year (well, really this year!!).  Now if I only can keep it up!!

I'll be sharing this card over at the Peace On Earth Christmas Challenge where they have a wonderful mood board showcasing SNOWMEN and also the Inkspirational Challenge where they are looking for quilts.

LOTS of inspiration at both sites if you'd like to play along.  The Peace On Earth Challenge is open till Thursday, Jan. 16th @ 8:00PM and the Inkspirational Challenge is open till Friday, Jan. 17th @ 11:59PM

Thanks for stopping by today ... I love it when you do!

Inkspirational #288 - Designers Choice - Nonni

Hello friends.  Playing with a new to me challenge today called the Inkspirational Challenge, that is now being run by one of my fellow teammates at Color Hues - Carol Mayne.  YAY Carol!!  I am happy to play along as this challenge is a "Designers Choice" and DT member Nonni has chosen DOTS & STRIPES!

I love, LOVE dots and stripes, so this was a fun challenge for me!!  I pullled out some Spring Rain Pattern Pack from PTI and Poppystamps Bird House Pop Up Easel Set and came up with this...

I couldn't resist a polka dotted birdhouse and love how this one turned out with the Spring Rain DSP (PTI) and some sponging with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  The little bird was cut with larger dotted Kraft DSP (also PTI) and sponged with the Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  A few little die cut leaves make it look like he's nesting right into this little house and making it his home.  And don't you love the textured roof on this little birdhouse?!  The die does the texturing for you, and I just enhanced it a bit with some more sponging.

For my background I used a strip of STRIPED DSP in the Spring Rain color to match with the birdhouse, and then added a thin strip of kraft next to it, and then added a piece of white embossed cs (Honey Bee Dogwood Blooms 3D) to complete the background.  My sentiment is from The Greetery's Sentiment Suite: Thinking of You and I finished with just a few Disco Ball Sequins from Gina K.

The DT has some awesome inspiration for you using DOTS & STRIPES and there's also a bunch in the gallery already too, so check it all out right HERE and play along.  This challenge is open till Friday, May 5th @ 11:59PM.
